With the Forest Glade Committee providing permission to build a new Adult and Pony (U17) baseball diamond will be built along side the existing Bronco diamond in March. Bill Sedgwick and Richard Crabb set out the proposed position of the diamond at Forest Glade last Sunday 29th of January as the first step in the preliminary work before full construction commences.
Work is set to start on 3rd March (weather permitting) to build the diamond, in order to have it ready for Senior & Pony league play in mid April. The diamond will significantly increase the youth baseball training facility at Forest Glade allowing the Pony team to play where they train as well as allow for the expansion of the Senior teams. For season 2012 is is expected that Ponys and the new Redbacks Adult Single A team will play home fixtures at Forest Glade.
Bill Sedgwick who is the Redbacks representative on the Forest Glade committee said: “It’s great that we’ve been able to develop the field at Forest Glade Football Club. All the junior teams will now be able to train and play their games here, as well as introducing senior baseball to Billericay, which we hope will enhance our stature in the community and our ability to grow and develop baseball in the area. We look forward to starting work on the construction and need as many volunteers as possible to complete it before the start of the season. The Football Club have shown great vision in increasing the amount of sport offered to people in the area while offering their members a summer sport to keep them active around the Club.”
A schedule of work is being drawn up, which includes build of the batters box, base quartiles and pitchers mound. Sinking of backstop and safety fence foundations, plus working the new infield (spiking, top dress/reseed and levelling). We will be also preparing the Bronco diamond for this coming season during these weekends.
In order to build the diamond and have it ready for the new season the club committee are asking for any adult players, parents and older Ponys to volunteer some of their time over the weekends of 3/4, 10/11 or 17/18 to help with the diamond build. We will need up to 10 volunteers each day to help! So can you please let Sean, Richard or Bill know of your availability.
